KATAPOLA
Katapola's historical bay welcomes its visitors to its leeward and safe port. There are thr three settlementsd Katapola , xilokeratidi and Rachidi.
Above Katapolas settlemment is the hill of ancient Minoa, the homonymous historical city-state, where the remains of some of the important buildings can still be seen: the walls of the city, the gymnasium, some eminent hellenistic churches and the archaic citabel. The bay has been inbabited for almost 6,000 years.
The picturesque landscape and the simple forms of Cyccladic arcitecture of the settlements are interesting to see , especially the monuments to Panagia Katapoliani, the Byzantine church of Evagelismos above Xilokeratidi, and the historic chapels of Taxiarchis;s and St. Irene.
Katapola's town offers many tourist facilities and is full of shops with local crafts.
Fascinating beaches nearby are : Kato Akrotiri, Maltezi, Plakes, Triss Ierarches, Agios Panteleimonas, Finikies, Tirokomos and Agioi Sananta. Katapola's peaceful ambience always dominates and magnetizes.
