Okay, but some problems |
Setting and location of the monastry beautiful. However, it's a long climb up to the monastry and conscious of the fact that clothing needed to be conservative, my husband had brought long trousers with him to change into. I was covered from head to foot in trouser suit with shawl for my head and shoulders. However, I was 'checked over' by a young man (who was younger than my own sons) and told I was not suitably attired, trousers being far too racy for a woman to wear in the monastry. I had to wrap my shawl around my waist (whilst still wearing trousers, which were visible) and wait for my husband to return from his viewing so that I could put his T.Shirt over my now exposed shoulders. I have to say that I found the experience insulting and only for the fact that I had ascended the long and hot climb, I would have changed my mind about continuing with the visit. Inside was no great shakes, not as beautiful as some of the churhes we viewed, but it's on the tourist trail. Just remember the climb is steep and hot, not open between 1-5pm and young men will decide on the suitability of womens attire.
